Liverpool is often overlooked on Sydney's family activity map, but it has some genuinely good free options — particularly if you're after open space and water.
Chipping Norton Lakes
The best free outdoor space in the Liverpool area. Chipping Norton Lakes is a chain of lakes formed from former brickworks operations, now surrounded by walking and cycling paths, grassed areas, and bird life.
The path that runs along the lakes is flat and suitable for prams and young kids on bikes. On warm days the lake foreshore is a pleasant picnic spot. The whole circuit is a few kilometres, but you can go as far as you like and turn back.
Address: Access from Heckenberg Avenue or Captain Cook Drive, Chipping Norton Entry: Free Facilities: Some BBQs and picnic areas; limited facilities — bring what you need
Bigge Park
Bigge Park is Liverpool's central green space, right in the CBD near the library and civic buildings. It's a well-maintained park with open lawn, walking paths, and a water feature. Good for a short break in the middle of a day in town.
Address: Memorial Avenue, Liverpool
Liverpool Regional Museum
Free entry. The Liverpool Regional Museum covers local history and has rotating exhibitions that are family-friendly. It's not large, but it's a useful free rainy-day option when you're already in the area.
Address: 31 Memorial Avenue, Liverpool Entry: Free Hours: Check council website for current opening hours
Liverpool City Library
Liverpool City Library runs free story time sessions during school terms and holiday programs. The library building is modern and the children's section is well-stocked.
Find current library events at Discover — search "Liverpool".
Woodward Park
Woodward Park is a large open reserve on the Georges River with picnic areas, open ovals, and some playground equipment. It's more suburban than scenic, but useful when you want open space away from the town centre.
Address: Woodward Avenue, Liverpool
Georges River walks
The Georges River runs along the southern edge of Liverpool and there are sections of public foreshore accessible for walking. The Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre is on the river at Casula (about 5km from Liverpool CBD) and has free public gardens and outdoor space.
Free council events
Liverpool City Council runs family events year-round, including seasonal festivals and school holiday programming. Browse upcoming events at Little Rascal.

Liverpool is on the T3 (Bankstown) and T5 (Cumberland) lines — about 45–50 minutes from the CBD. Chipping Norton Lakes require a car or a solid bike ride from the station.
