WPCCL 2026 Term 2 After School Visual Arts: Brush and Pencil Studio
About this event
Welcome to Brush and Pencil Studio, an after-school art program for children aged 7–12. This program provides a supportive and engaging environment where students can explore their creativity while building foundational artistic skills.
Participation in this program encourages confidence, creativity, collaboration, and resilience—supporting children to become thoughtful and expressive individuals.
What to learn:
Week 1: Drawing 3D Forms: “Fruit on the Table"
Observe and draw fruit, breaking it down into simple shapes and using shading to create form.
Week 2: Mixed Media: “Animal Portraits in Colour”
Draw an animal using a pencil or pen and enhance it with a watercolour background.
Week 3: Drawing: “My Name, My World”
Create a large initial in bubble lettering and fill it with drawings that represent their interests, such as hobbies, foods, or animals.
Week 4: Drawing: “Shades of Charcoal”
Experiment with charcoal to create a tonal drawing of a simple still life, exploring smudging and blending techniques.
Week 5: Watercolour: “Colour Wheel Explorers”
Mix primary colours to create a colour wheel or an abstract painting, discovering secondary and tertiary colours.
Week 6: Mixed Media: “Building with Line and Wash”
Draw a house or storefront using fine liners and apply watercolour washes to add depth and atmosphere.
Week 7: Collage: “Creative Self-Portraits”
Create an imaginative self-portrait using collage materials such as cut paper, textures, and drawings.
Week 8: Landscape Painting: “Horizons”
Create a watercolour landscape, learning about the horizon line and how to build depth using foreground, middle ground, and background.
All materials are provided.
When: Thursdays, 7 May - 25 June 2026 (10 weeks), 4 pm - 5 pm
Where: Wentworth Point Community Centre and Library, Creative Studio/Space
Who: Ages 7 - 12
Cost: Standard price: $120 / Creative Kids Voucher: $70
Important Information for parents/guardians:
Parents/Guardians of children 11 years or under will need to stay near the classroom whilst the classes take place and available to be contacted by the facilitator. This is part of the children in the library policy. It is a requirement to drop your child off for any class in the facility.
