National Reconciliation Week
About this event
National Reconciliation Week runs annually from 27 May – 3 June. These dates mark two milestones in Australia’s reconciliation journey: The 1967 referendum and the historic Mabo decision, respectively.
National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how everyone can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.
Reconciliation must live in the hearts, minds, and actions of all Australians as we move forward, creating a nation strengthened by respectful relationships between the wider Australian community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
The National Reconciliation Week theme for 2026 is All In and is a call for all Australians to commit wholeheartedly to reconciliation every day. The theme reminds us that achieving reconciliation and advancing the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people isn’t a passive activity and not the sole responsibility of First Nations people who have carried the weight of championing, explaining and acting for far too long.
In line with the National Reconciliation Week theme, thousands of workplaces, schools, early learning services, universities, councils, and more organise their own private or public activities for National Reconciliation Week.
Fairfield City Council will highlight National Reconciliation Week with the 2026 National Reconciliation Week flag raising event at the front of Council on Wednesday 27 May 2026, from 9:30am – 12:00pm. Download the event flyer here(PDF, 1MB)
Residents, the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community, service and agency representatives, students and early learners are invited to participate in this accessible, all-inclusive free event in recognition of National Reconciliation Week.
