Botanical patterns: stories of place drop-in workshop
About this event
Willoughby City Council is proud to be a contributor to the Gai-mariagal Festival. Founded in 2001, the festival celebrates First Nations people and culture in the Northern Sydney region.
Join Muruwari artist Dr Virginia Keft for an engaging, hands-on workshop inspired by native plants and the stories they carry. Using leaves, bark and other natural materials, participants will create botanical artworks and simple patterns while exploring connections to Country, community and belonging.
No experience is required. The workshop is suitable for all ages, and all materials will be provided.
Dr Virginia Keft is a Muruwari woman and multi-award-winning interdisciplinary artist working across weaving, sculpture, painting and installation. Her practice is grounded in cultural storytelling, connection to Country and First Nations knowledge.
Alongside her studio practice, Virginia works on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander programs at the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia and serves on the board of Firstdraft Gallery in Sydney.
