✨ Calling All Young Carers ✨

Come join us for a fun, creative co-design session at the Cairns Carer Gateway Hub as we dream up costumes, props, and vibrant ideas for the Cairns Festival Grand Parade this August! 🎉☀️🌴

This year’s parade theme is “Fun in the Sun” and we would LOVE for young carers to be part of the celebration- shining brightly, being seen, celebrated, and proudly represented in one of Cairns’ biggest community events.

Together, we’ll brainstorm creative concepts, design colourful parade pieces, and help bring our joyful young carer vision to life in a welcoming and supportive space alongside other young people.

Miyu Inai – Kookaburra Kids Young Carer Community Outreach Coordinator Meet Miyu (say it like “Me-You”)! Miyu runs awesome programs for young people across Cairns and Townsville, supporting wellbeing, connection, and mental health.

Donna Raymond – Wellways Carer Hub Navigator Your hostess with the mostest! Donna is here to help bring the festive fun to life and support young carers and families to connect in with Carer Gateway supports and community.

🌟 Who is a Young Carer? A young carer is someone under 25 years old who provides unpaid care and support to a family member or friend living with disability, mental illness, physical illness, substance dependency, or age-related needs.

Being a young carer can sometimes feel isolating or overwhelming while balancing school, friendships, responsibilities and everyday life - which is why spaces of connection, creativity and support matter so much.

We can’t wait to celebrate young carers with you at this year’s Grand Parade! 🎭✨
