Children’s Creative Writing Workshop
About this event
Join a creative writing workshop led by a published Australian author. Build your writing skills, explore your ideas and shape your story into something you’re proud to share.
This year marks 200 years of the original Fisher’s Ghost story, and you’re invited to be part of this local storytelling tradition. The theme for the 2026 Fisher’s Ghost Writing Prize is “Years in the Making,” and writers of all levels are encouraged to create a piece inspired by this theme.
You’ll learn simple tipsto help your writing shine, like how to build characters, organise your ideas and make your stories more engaging. You’ll also get new ideas, feel more confident sharing your work and meet other local writers in a friendly, supportive space.
About the Presenter
Elizabeth Blackwood is a writer, educator, and researcher who loves helping young people discover the stories only they can tell. With a background in writing, film, music, and creative education, she is currently completing a PhD in Creative Writing. Her work is inspired by folklore, fairy tales, mystery, and magical realism, and she is passionate about helping emerging writers develop confidence in their ideas and learn practical storytelling skills.
Before becoming a writer and educator, Elizabeth worked as a school counsellor, supporting children through challenges, big emotions, and important stages of growth. This experience shapes her approach to teaching and helps her create workshops that are welcoming, encouraging, and fun. She believes every child has a story worth telling and is excited to help participants explore the 2026 Fisher's Ghost Writing Prize theme, Years in the Making.
Campbelltown City Library has partnered with WestWords to create the Fisher’s Ghost Writing Prize. This annual competition is open to anyone who lives, works or attends school, TAFE or university in the Campbelltown Local Government area from Year 4 and above.
