Contemplative Cartography Workshop: Make a Map

About this event

OverviewJoin Artist in Residence Lada Dediç in creating a one-of-a-kind collaborative artwork that celebrates community, creativity and place. Across a series of drop-in sessions held at different locations, participants are invited to contribute to a large-scale abstract map in collaboration with the artist.

Each participant will decorate a small 10 x 10 cm section of the map using a selection of materials and their own creative expression. These individual pieces will then be brought together to form a vibrant, collective artwork that reflects the diversity and identity of our community.

No experience is needed, just bring your curiosity and creativity. This is a relaxed, drop-in activity and everyone is welcome to take part.

The final artwork will be exhibited at Hurstville Museum & Gallery as part of a special event, where Lada Dediç will share insights into her process. Participants will also have the opportunity to take home a small section of the completed artwork as a memento of their contribution.

Please note: Children under 12 years must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

Lada Dediç is a rambler in thought, speech and practice, known for straying off the path in both life and work. A full-time travelling artist and maker, she divides her time between Australia, the South Pacific and South East Asia. Her multi-disciplinary investigative approach explores themes of meditative contemplation, the interplay of science & art, and playful cartography. Having a peculiar relationship with direction has led her to make unconventional maps, sure to send even the most seasoned navigator on an unexpected adventure.
