About the artist:

Nina Barnden is a contemporary painter based in Adelaide, South Australia. After completing a Bachelor of Visual Art at Adelaide Central School of Art in 2024, Barnden has continued to develop a painting practice centred around surreal compositions that construct improbable yet recognisable scenes from disparate visual references.

Barnden has exhibited in group exhibitions including the Adelaide Central School of Art Graduate Exhibition (2024), the Youthscape Art Prize at the Royal South Australian Society of Arts, and Forbidden Fruit at Floating Goose Studios (2026). She received the Youth Arts and Culture Award from the City of Tea Tree Gully (2020), was awarded Highly Commended in the Youthscape Art Prize (2024, 2026), and received a Judges’ Commendation for a high-achieving graduate from Adelaide Central School of Art (2024). In 2025, Barnden was awarded the Adelaide Central School of Art Graduate Support Kickstart Program Grant and has since expanded her practice into public art, undertaking council-commissioned mural and public art projects.
