For Her Love of Birds with Jane Melville

About this event

Jane Ward Tost was a peer of John Gould and John James Audubon, two towering figures of 19th century natural history illustration, yet most people have never heard of her.

Museum curator, biologist and writer Jane Melville AM brings Tost’s story to life: a 19th century naturalist and taxidermist who became one of England and Australia’s leading natural historians, and Australia’s first salaried female museum employee, at a time when that shouldn’t have been possible.

A talk about birds, science, and a woman who refused to be overlooked.
