Minis NAIDOC Craft Workshop: Baya Garrigarang Nura Weaving, Nadeena Dixon
About this event
Join artist Nadeena Dixon for a hands-on weaving workshop inspired by the saltwater stories of Gadigal Country. In this creative session, Minis will make their own woven sea creatures — including fish, stingrays, sharks and jellyfish — while exploring storytelling, making and connection to the ocean.
Guided through simple weaving techniques, children will learn how weaving has been used for thousands of years to create objects, share knowledge and tell stories. Working with natural and contemporary fibres, each woven piece will become part of a collaborative installation inspired by the movement and life of the saltwater environment.
By the end of the workshop, every child will have contributed to a shared underwater artwork — a living ocean of stories created together.
As part of NAIDOC Week, this workshop acknowledges 50 Years – Deadly, celebrating culture, creativity and the next generation through shared making.
