Weaving & Knots: Crafting Culture with Aunty Elaine

Join Kaurna Elder Aunty Elaine for a fun, hands-on weaving session made especially for curious kids. Together, we’ll learn about Kaurna culture while using our hands and imaginations to weave with natural materials and colourful raffia.

Children will get to try simple weaving techniques and create their very own small basket or woven keyring to take home. Along the way, there’ll be stories, laughs, and lots of sharing. Learn how weaving was used to solve real-world problems, such as carrying, fishing, shelter and food preparation and how materials were engineered for specific purposes.

No weaving experience needed — just bring your curiosity and creativity! This is a relaxed and friendly session where kids can learn, make, and celebrate the wonderful traditions of Kaurna culture.

This session forms part of the 'All In' Reconciliation Science School Holiday Program and is suitable for children aged 7-16 years. Parental or guardian supervision is required for all children under 12 years of age.
