You're kidding me- Early Communication and Play: What Families Need to know
About this event
Presented by Beam Services- in this session we will explore how play is a key way young children learn to communicate, connect and make sense of the world. When adults join children in play and model language, it creates natural opportunities for children to develop communication, speech and language skills, while also supporting motor development, emotional regulation and social engagement. This presentation will explore the importance of play in the early years and share practical strategies to support the development of communication skills in play and everyday routines. At the end of the presentation, you will have the opportunity to chat with a speech pathologist about your child, have a short and informal play-based screener of your child’s speech and you can engage in some play and practice putting the strategies into use! (Please note no written screens will be completed, this will be an informal discussion based screener only).
Children are invited to attend sessions with their parent/carer. We will have activities set up near the presentation and council staff will be available to support children’s engagement with activities while parents tune into the presentation.
